General Information

  1. There are no limitations on the conditions for which a health care practitioner can support the use of marihuana for medical purposes.

  2. If you support your patient to order marihuana for medical purposes from a licenced producer, you must complete a medical document.

  3. There are no restrictions on the daily amount of marihuana for medical purposes a health care practitioner can recommend. However, there is a possession cap of the lesser of 150 grams or 30 times the daily amount.

  4. Surveys published have suggested that the majority of people using inhaled marihuana for medical purposes reported using approximately 1-3 grams of cannabis per day.   5. Licenced producers are only permitted to provide dried marihuana for medical purposes. Other forms such as edibles or oils are not permitted to be sold under the ACMPR.

  6. Marihuana for medical purposes will not be assigned a Drug Identification Number (DIN).
